Introducing Language Portal Babelyou
24/09/2008 by stefi.
Hello!
I would like to present you the Language Portal Babelyou,
awarded by the German Ministry of Economics and Technology
in the last International Funkausstellung (International Radio Exhibition)
in Berlin.
Language students from the Herder-Institut and the Studienkolleg of Leipzig’s
university are already working in Babelyou.
The Babelyou project, where people from different cultures meet, unites more
than 70 countries and 40 languages. Babelyou is planning to connect the whole
world today in order to create an international network without borders.
With a unique platform Babelyou offers the possibility to establish
international links, this means, getting in touch with people from all over
the world and keeping in contact with them.
Among the typical options of a 2.0 web Babelyou offers the chance to make your
own profile, post photos and videos and create discussion and common interest
groups.
Those who want to learn new languages will have the possibility to find, all
over the globe, a proper language partner through especial searching criteria. I
n our language portal they can learn a language efficiently and without obstacles.
In addition, they can use our translation tool which will allow them to
translate a world into different languages during their learning sessions.
At Babelyou you can get in contact with any country through its own chat room
and you can communicate yourself in different languages and countries immediately.
Babelyou was elaborated by Andreas König in February 2007 and it was launched
online in May 2008. The idea was to unite and connect people from all the
countries and cultures in the new social network Babelyou, regardless of the
language they may speak or the country they may come from.
The registration and the use of Babelyou are totally free of charge.

NEWS FROM THE ENTREPRENEURS FORUM
21/09/2008 by stefi.
Ciao a tutti!
If you are already familiar with our blog, you may remember how excited I was to be asked to contribute to the Entrepreneurs Forum with my story available at http://www.ifwecanyoucan.co.uk/entrepreneurs/stefania-de-angelis-williams
If you are new to this blog, let me tell you what it’s all about:
www.ifwecanyoucan.co.uk is a website which inspires.
“If you’re already running a business, ‘If we can, you can’ will connect you with people who could help move you to the next level.
If you’re developing a business idea or are about to turn an idea into reality, you’ll find inspiration from others who’ve been there already along with practical guidance.
It’s all about sharing experiences.
Well, I just received the latest newsletter, and I was thrilled to see plenty of interest and inspiration from all contributors, and lost of advice from all of them, so useful.
The ‘click-through’ stats (to see who’s most popular) showed that my story is amongst the most clicked! I am so happy to be able to offer my experience for the benefit of others.
If I can help you with anything, just write in this blog: I am just at the other site of the keyboard.
If you have not read my story, click on http://www.ifwecanyoucan.co.uk/entrepreneurs/stefania-de-angelis-williams. Have a look at my story, and if I can help you with anything, I will be pleased to hear from you.

WLS lands in Poland
15/09/2008 by stefi.
Ciao a tutti!
If you follow my blog, you know that I am fascinated about Poland and Polish culture and I am learning Polish.
Today, I would like to introduce to you www.anglisci.pl
www.anglisci.pl is a new portal that has been created in order to help both student of English and English teachers in Poland. Editors and contributors are developing all the time writing about new, interesting topics, connected with English language learning and teaching.
As the European Day of Languages is approaching, editor-in-chief Gabriela Oberda asked me to share my ideas and experience with Polish teachers. I was honoured to contribute with our experience, and an article was written especially for the portal and its important initiative. You can view the article at http://www.anglisci.pl/europejski-dzien-jezykow-obcych/the-european-day-of-languages.-a-great-opportunity-to-raise-language-and-cultural-diversity-awarene.html.
There are some important features, which makes this portal special and different from others Polish portals concerning English language:
- it was created for students to find all necessary materials
- it was created for teachers to show them new methods and ideas
- it is to show how English language is taught in other countries, that teachers have the same problems
- to make all people aware that languages are important
Have a look, and post your views!

Event on translations
15/09/2008 by stefi.
Dear all,
I hope you will be able to attend the next event of the ITI NERG, which will be held in Ponteland on 2 October, especially in view of the fact that arranging the meeting has not been a straightforward task!
Venue:
Ponteland Community High School, Callerton Lane, Ponteland, NE20 9EY
Date: 2 October 2008
Time: 19:30 – 21:00
Theme: “Direct clients or agencies?”
There is an obvious financial benefit to working with direct clients – but what are the drawbacks? Agencies sometimes get a bad press, but offer positive benefits too. This meeting will take the form of a round table discussion where we will examine these two working relationships and share our experiences
For directions:
see website: http://www.pchs.northumberland.sch.uk/find.htm
For further information on ITI NE and the event:
see ITI NE website http://www.communigate.co.uk/ne/itinortheast/page3.phtml
The event is open to members and non members of the ITI, and it will be of benefit to all translators and students of languages. The event is a great opportunity to spread knowledge and a fantastic networking place.

Stefania De Angelis Williams, director of Williams Language Solutions Ltd, said: “We chose to support The Children’s Trust as our UK based charity through meticulous research and visiting the charity’s website, which we found very informative and friendly.
